“In my quest for artistic excellence, I try to impregnate my work with new techniques, constantly expanding the media and materials I use. I participate in International Art Fairs since 2023. My favorite artists are the American Expressionists as: Joan Mitchell, Willem de Kooning and Robert Motherwell.”
Monica Isla is a Mexican artist with a profound passion for exploring the convergence of history and art. Equipped with a master's degree in world history, she is currently immersing herself in the realm of art history through a second degree program.
Her artistic journey has been enriched by a variety of experiences, including participation in numerous painting courses and workshops. Monica is deeply committed to refining her skills and regularly attends classes at Oolite Arts, a distinguished non-profit organization in Miami, Florida, dedicated to nurturing contemporary art and culture.
Through her artwork, Monica endeavors to harmonize her academic background with her creative expression, encouraging viewers to ponder the intricate interplay between past and present, history and artistry. Each brushstroke serves as a reflection of her ongoing exploration of the human experience, both historical and contemporary, as she aims to captivate and inspire her audience through her art.

More ABOUT ME
Every day I try to impregnate my work with new techniques, constantly expanding the media and materials I use. Some of my favorites are: acrylic, colored pencils, fluids, and any other that helps to give volume and shape to my painting. My penchant for experimentation draws me towards diverse textures, fusing them into unique masterpieces. The history and culture of my country run through my veins, and the pre-Hispanic world and Mayan traditions are an inexhaustible source of inspiration. Some of the palettes of my works are inspired by colors such as black, red, beige, gray and white, which have a special meaning in Mayan cosmology, as black and white represent the interaction between life and death, light and darkness. Red, symbol of blood and vitality, was used in the most sacred ceremonies and rituals, forging a connection between the spiritual realm and earthly life.
In the tapestry of Maya cosmology, the threads of geometry are interwoven with magic. The ancients held the belief that the universe was spun from sacred geometric shapes; the circle, square, and triangle, imbued with divine essence. Drawing from this mystical tradition, I too harness the power of these shapes to craft intricate patterns and textures, breathing life into my art.
As a creator, I am drawn to the enigmatic dance of hues, patterns, and textures, for they hold the power to stir deep emotions within the beholder. My art is a reflection of the churning tides of my soul, each canvas a portal into a unique tale of wonder. I take great pleasure in crafting pieces that provoke thought, tantalize the senses, and inspire introspection in all who behold them.

My artwork invites contemplation of the endless cycles of life and transformation. Calm tones evoke peace and serenity, symbolizing the never-ending river of metamorphosis and opportunities for growth. The symbols on the canvas, such as the cylinder and the eggs, guide us through the phases of life and remind us to remain open to change, constantly evolving and renewing ourselves.
The artwork is part of the Emotions series and symbolizes the balance and harmony in human bonds. The fusion of straight and curved lines represents stability and flexibility respectively. The artwork portrays the fragility of the human soul and emphasizes the message of hope and resilience in the face of life's challenges.

My artwork invites the viewer to reflect on the infinite mysteries of the universe and summarizes the essence of human existence, highlighting the balance between opposing forces.

In the mystical realm of artistry, "Nightmares" is a spellbinding invocation of the human psyche's deepest and most unsettling emotions. Like a sorcerer wielding arcane symbols and hidden messages, in this piece my intention was to create chaos and disquiet, evoking the fears and anxieties that all mortals face. Yet, in this tapestry of terror, there lies a glimmer of magic, for it offers the chance for introspection and transformation. Gazing upon this piece, one is beckoned to confront their own fears and tread paths of personal metamorphosis. my brush does not seek to enchant with dread or intrigue, but rather to inspire, uplift, and kindle a flame of hope. For even amidst the darkest of nightmares, a light illuminates the path forward.

I hope my work inspires others to find beauty in the world around us and motivates people to take action and protect natural spaces for future generations.
